Happy New Year 2007

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone! We've had a nice couple of days together as a family. We've been able to relax a lot. Corey has been able to play his xbox 360 except he's had problems with it the past day. He called Microsoft yesterday and they are sending a box to us to ship it in. Hopefully they'll be able to fix it. It plays on a regular TV but when we try to play it on our new 62" HD TV, it won't stay in the HD setting. So, hopefully we can get it fixed so all of us can play it. :)
We got this TV about a month ago. We weren't planning on getting a TV but Gretchen saw an ad on craigeslist.com for this TV. The guy had bought it 4 months prior w/ a 4 year warranty but had measured wrong in his house. The TV was too big for his house. So, we got it for half the price that it cost him (including the stand). It was such a good deal, we couldn't pass it up. Plus, Corey works really hard to support his family.... he deserves to buy what he wants, which he basically does. lol Besides, he has the final say anyway. He IS the leader of our home.

We're not doing much tonight. New Year's isn't a huge event for us. It's just the beginning of another year that we've been blessed to still be here for. We hope all of you have a Happy New year! BE SAFE!

Our FIRST Family Christmas

We had our first family Christmas together! Corey was scheduled to work but fortunately, his company decided to shut down for Christmas Eve AND Christmas. It was so nice to have him with us.

We had a lot of fun since this was the first year that Zach really "understands" that there is a Santa Claus. We did the usual leaving cookies and milk out for Santa Claus and of course Santa coming Christmas Eve night. We didn't want Zach to focus completely on presents. We want him to realize the most important gift that we were given.... Jesus! We sang "Happy Birthday" to Jesus before we opened gifts and he really seemed to like that. He got kind of bored with the Christmas story but he's a pre-schooler.... that's to be expected.

All of us got spoiled for Christmas. Corey got Gretchen a KitchenAid electric mixer. It's VERY nice. You can add attachments to it. He also got Gretchen a new cell phone. It's a Treo Palm 700P. She got that early! :) Of course, Corey got his xbox 360 that he wanted along with the HD DVD player that goes with it. He got lots of games and movies to use on them. He also got a very nice dress watch that he wanted. Santa brought the family a Sony camcorder that has a 3 MP camera in it. Zach got some video games that he really enjoys (the V.Smile learning system and the Leapster handheld learning system). Santa also brought him some slippers, clothes and games to go with the videos. Plus, he got some videos that he wanted from other people in the family (Poppa Larry and Aunt Brandy, Uncle Russ and Kara).

We didn't really do much after opening gifts. Corey played his xbox 360 the entire day (between 7 & 8 hours). Gretchen kind of expected that so she played with Zach most of the day. She didn't feel 100% that day, so her and Zach took a nap. All in all, it was a nice relaxing day! We are so thankful that God has blessed us with the Christmas that we had. This was all possible because of God. Even if we had nothing, we are just thankful that God gave us his most precious gift.... Jesus. :)

Family Christmas Pictures!

We got our first pictures, as a family, taken together. It was rough. It took 1 1/2 hours to get some good pictures. The very first picture they took didn't turn out very well but that's what we had to go with for the big package. We plan on ordering other ones. It took forever to get a good smile from Zach. He just smiles too big most of the time.

Corey FINALLY has 4 days off this week. Just in time for Zach's Christmas play that he's in at school. It should be really cute. Don't worry... we're going to video tape it. He supposed to be a little shepherd. We have Corey's work Christmas party this week. It should be fun. We'll see how Zach does with a babysitter. :)

We're both REALLY excited about Christmas. Gretchen found out about the gift that Corey got her for Christmas so she already has it. She got a Palm Treo PDA cell phone. It's REALLY cool. It's palm pilot in combination with a cell phone. Plus, it has MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint on it. It's VERY nice. Gretchen has SEVERAL gifts for Corey but we can't mention them on here until after Christmas. He doesn't know about them yet. ;)

Our First Thanksgiving!

We had our first Thanksgiving as a family and unfortunately, Corey had to work. However, Gretchen's parents were down for the weekend. Gretchen made everything herself for Thanksgiving. She was really trying to impress her parents. ;) It turned out pretty good. She made a stuffed Turkey, Ham, homemade baked macaroni and cheese, stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, a double layer pumpkin pie, a cheesecake, and a pumpkin roll. It was really good. Gretchen's parents loved it. We think they were impressed. lol

We celebrated Christmas with Gretchen's parents early. Her mom bought her a sewing machine. Now she can really be a homemaker. Hopefully, if she makes clothes, one arm won't be longer than the other. lol ;)

Gretchen was brave enough to go out on "Black Friday" shopping. She got up WAY before everyone else to make it to the stores. She got almost everything she was looking for. She finished Christmas shopping and even finished wrapping the gifts. AAAHHH... how good it feels to be done! :) Now, it's just time to finish baking.

Corey has been working so much lately. He's had to work so much overtime. We're hoping that will end soon, maybe even in a couple of weeks.

Corey working!

Well, Corey just got done working 12 days in a row. He was suppose to get off 2 days but his work called him into work. He had gotten off last Sunday night from work and wasn't suppose to go back until last Wednesday night. His boss called him around 11 A.M. on Monday to call him into work that night for night shift. So, he didn't get 2 days off. He worked straight through. On his last day he went to the gym right after work and pulled a muscle in his shoulder/ back area. He has been in a LOT of pain since he got off work yesterday morning.

Today, we surprised Zach and took him to Chuck E. Cheese. He had so much fun. Of course, Corey had a lot of fun too. We thought it might be fun for all of us have a "family day" and have fun since Corey has been working so much. Then, we came home and relaxed the rest of the day. We ordered pizza for dinner so we didn't have to go anywhere.

Gretchen, in the mean time, has been getting ready for Thanksgiving AND going Christmas shopping. She's ALMOST done. :)

Resting!

Gretchen was so tired from cleaning so much before everyone came over to the house and from cooking that she didn't feel like doing much this week. Zach didn't have school on Tuesday, so him and her slept in while Corey had to go to work. Poor thing.... he's been working so much lately. Gretchen went to the gym, went to her bible study and has cooked for Corey. She hasn't really cleaned anything until yesterday and today. She did laundry and made sure the house was nice and clean for Corey when he gets off of work tonight.
Zach has been a little sick lately. He's just had a little cold but it's annoying him, you can tell. He doesn't like it very much. We really don't want to give him any medicine. We try not to so his little body isn't getting loaded with medicines. The allergist we were seeing put him on 3 or 4 different medications. Corey asked her if he was ever going to get off these medicines and she said probably not. We stopped going to her b/c she would put him on medicines that he didn't really need. We just stopped going and stopped giving him the medicines. He's been fine.
Gretchen has been trying to finish her Christmas shopping. She's trying to wait until "Black Friday" to get some really good deals. Hopefully by then, she'll be completely done. She is going to make some things for some people but we can't say what it is so it will be a surprise for those receiving it. :)

Zach's Party!

Gretchen's parents flew in last night. We picked them up at the airport and then stayed up until midnight. Then, we had to get up early so we could show Gretchen's parents this house that is for sale. They are looking at possibly moving down here in the future. So, we were all tired today.
We took Gretchen's parents out to McAlister's for lunch. While we were out we went to "Ross" and Gretchen did some more Christmas shopping. She's almost done all our Christmas shopping! Then, we had to pick up Zach's birthday cake and balloons. We came home and Gretchen had to finish making the crab dip for the party. Corey had to marinate the baby back ribs and get those ready to put in the oven for the afternoon. Gretchen's mom had to do the goody bags for the kids for the party and Gretchen's Dad just kept Zach occupied. We got everything done and Zach had a good birthday party. We think he really enjoyed all the attention.
After everyone left, Gretchen cleaned everything up and finished cooking dinner for her parents and then we just relaxed the rest of the evening. It was a VERY busy day! Corey has to work tomorrow so hopefully the day will go a little slower. :)

Zach's 3rd Birthday!

Well, the day is finally here when Zach is no longer a toddler but more of a little boy. He is 3 years old! Can you believe it? Time goes by so fast! Hopefully he had a fun day. We tried to make him feel EXTRA special and let him decide what he wanted to do and eat for the day. We figured he'd probably want to eat a lot of junk food. Since he's not allowed to eat that much junk food any other time, we figured he should enjoy being able to eat whatever he wants.

Gretchen got to work out at the gym today and then come home to do more cleaning. She's doing very detailed cleaning. She cleaned the oven, the stove, the microwave, the dishwasher and the refrigerator. She's been very busy. The next 2 days she's going to be VERY busy! She can't wait to be able to relax. :)

Grocery Shopping

Gretchen took Zach to get his pictures taken for his birthday! Then, she went grocery shopping right after that since she was already at Walmart. She had to get a lot of things for baking during the holidays. She got stopped many times for people to either talk to Zach or tell him or her how handsome he was. Everyone thought he was a adorable. Of course, he ate it up. He's SUCH a flirt!

While Gretchen was getting Zach's pictures done, Corey stayed home to pressure wash the house to clean it up. It was VERY dirty. We needed to get it done and Gretchen's parents are coming down this weekend so that just gave him an excuse to get it done. Gretchen scrubed the walls down with the "Magic Eraser". There were a lot of marks, scuffs and little fingerprints on the walls. She's got a lot to do this week!

Fireman Zach!

This week has been pretty hectic. Corey just got off working 20 days. Finally, he has 4 days off. Gretchen has been busy trying to clean the house. She's trying to do some deep cleaning in the house.

We both got to go to Zach's school this week. They had the firemen there and we got to jump in there with Zach and be apart of it. We had fun and were glad that we could both attend with Zach. Corey even got to help one of the firemen.... WAY FOR HIM TO GET INVOLVED!! lol

We've been trying to get some Christmas shopping done. Gretchen wants to do a lot of baking this holiday season!

Gretchen has been going to the gym and has been on the "Fat Smash Diet" that Celebrity Fit Club uses. It works! She's lost 8 lbs so far. It's helping her eat healthier. That's the whole point of the diet anyway. It's really just changing your eating habits to eat healthier but this helps you do it in different phases. She wants to lose about 5 more lbs. SHE CAN DO IT!

Gretchen made some peanut butter fudge the other day and oh... was it good!! Everyone at Corey's work LOVED it! Gretchen had to cheat and have a few pieces. She couldn't miss out on that!

Zach is Sick

Gretchen was up until 2 A.M. last night making breakfast for her Bible Study for this morning. Zach woke her up at 5:30 A.M. this morning. So, she's pretty tired today.
Corey just got off of night work this morning. He had his Bible study at our house this morning after getting off work. So, Corey kept Zach at the house while Gretchen ran the food over to her Bible Study. She figured the other women wouldn't appreciate bringing a sick child to be around their kids. (I know we wouldn't like it)
Zach didn't want to take a nap today, even though he REALLY needed one today since he went to bed last night at 10:30 p.m. (b/c of being sick) and woke up at 5:30 a.m. So, she told him to lay down in his bed while we watched the Disney Channel. She rubbed his back and he was asleep within 5 minutes. He really needs his rest.
Nothing is really going on. Corey has been working a LOT of overtime the past 2 weeks. He's back on schedule now, though. Gretchen and Zach have only seen Corey 2 days in the past 2 weeks. It's been tough but we made it. Gretchen has been going Christmas shopping trying to get that out of the way so we can all enjoy the holidays. Plus, she wants to make sure she has plenty of time to do lots of baking and crafts! :)

Christmas shopping!

Gretchen took Zach to school this morning. It's been so nice that she can have some time to herself and get things done. She went to the gym and then did some Christmas shopping and a little bit of birthday shopping. She's trying to find Diego party supplies so she doesn't have to order them online but it looks like she's going to have to.

She's been going to AC Moore almost everyday b/c she has these coupons that she can get scrapbooking supplies fairly cheap. She's doing a MARINE CORPS scrapbook for Corey. She's really gotten into scrapbooking... and cooking! Can you believe that? Plus, she wants to start sewing. Can you believe this is the same woman? lol

Birthday Shopping

After dropping Zach off at school, we went to AC Moore. Corey was brave enough to go into the store with Gretchen. Gretchen had to get some stuff to scrapbook with. She's trying to do a scrapbook for Corey's Marine Corps Service. Also, Gretchen is still doing some more of Zach's. She just finished his whole first year.

Then, we went to Toys R Us. While we were there we got Zach's birthday gift from us, Gretchen's parents birthday gifts from them along with Christmas gifts from them. Gretchen's parents asked us to do his shopping for them so that they didn't have to haul it down here.

It was nice for us to spend some time together and to be able to do some shopping without Zach. We went out to eat together after we got done our shopping, read a couple chapters of this book that we are reading called, "Sheet Music" by Kevin Leman. Then, we picked Zach up from school.

When we get home from school, Zach always gets to eat lunch and then goes down for a nap (even though he doesn't always take one). Then, it's either scrapbooking time for Gretchen, snuggle time for Corey and Gretchen and/ or nap time for Corey as well. It's so nice to be able to spend time together as both a couple and as a family.

First Day!

Today was Corey's second day off, but felt like the first day since he had to sleep yesterday from coming off of night shift. He had Bible Study this morning while Gretchen took Zach to preschool for the first day. She's been really excited about Zach going. He's so smart and he really needs the socialization. It'll be good for him. It's at a christian preschool, which is even better.

The preschool is about 20 minutes away. So, Gretchen went shopping at AC Moore to look at scrapbooking stuff. She also got to do some birthday shopping for Zach, since his birthday is coming up and also did some Christmas shopping. It was nice to be able to do that alone. Tomorrow, Corey and Gretchen will be taking Zach to preschool which will give us some time alone.

When Gretchen and Zach got home this afternoon, we all had lunch together. Then, Zach and Corey took a nap. When they got up from their naps, the two of them went to go get a drink from the gas station together. Corey loves his Arizona Green Tea w/ Ginseng & Honey. They don't sell it at the grocery store so Corey has to go to the gas station to get it.

Zach's Preschool

We took Zach to this place called the "House of Bounce" today. It was really fun. It's $5 for the kids and the adults are free. They have these HUGE inflatable slides and mazes. Zach had a blast and of course Corey did too. We may end up going there for his birthday. The lady had us pay on our way out. While Corey was paying, we were talking to her about finding a preschool for Zach. This other customer was there paying for her child for after-school care. She works for this Baptist Church that has a preschool. So, we ended up going to the church. We were able to look through the curriculum that they used, which is Christian based. They have Chapel time, crafts, singing, and recreation. They make sure that the kids measure up to the state standards academically. He'll go 3 days a week in the morning. Gretchen is really excited. Corey is excited but kind of sad because he doesn't want Zach growing up too fast.

Gretchen's parents are coming down to visit for Zach's birthday! We're really looking forward to their visit. Gretchen just needs to make sure the house is clean!!

We have found a church that we really like and it's only 3 minutes from our house. It's a Baptist church. Our friends, Doug and Leslie and their kids, go there. Leslie is the youth leader and Gretchen will probably be helping her. Gretchen would also like to get involved with the praise team fairly soon. Corey is interested in teaching a class. However, he also wants to go to college to pursue a religious studies degree online. So, we'll see what happens.

The Park!

Yesterday, Corey had Bible Study in the morning. Then, we went out to eat for lunch. While we were out, we took Zach to a park. He loved it. It was a lot of fun for us too. We had a lot of fun. Then we piled back in the truck and came back home. Zach took a nap. Corey played his video game while Gretchen did some more scrapbooking. Then, we did some reading in the Bible. We are reading through the new testament together. We have Bible commentaries to read along with the Chapters so that we can get more out of it.

Today, we stayed home all day. Gretchen fixed breakfast, like she does every morning. Then, Corey played tractors and cars with Zach again. Gretchen had gotten some "Color Wonders" stuff at Walmart on clearance. So, she got that out and had him color on that along with some regular crayons and markers. While Zach was doing that, Gretchen and Corey read some more in the Bible. We read Mark 1-3. We finished Matthew yesterday.

Gretchen fixed lunch, like she always does, and then put Zach down for a nap. Corey and Gretchen also took a nap but Gretchen woke up early so that she could fix dinner.

Baptist Church

Corey & Gretchen started going with Corey's co-worker, Doug, to their church. They go to a Baptist Church. It's only 3 minutes from our house, which is nice. We really like it. The Pastor has good sermons. We like the worship too. They also have Sunday School that we go to. It seems like it might be a good opportunity for both of us to serve. They could definitely use another singer on the worship team (they only have one right now) and probably even a pianist. For Sunday School, it might be a good opportunity for Corey to teach. Plus, they have things for the children which is obviously becoming more and more important.

Corey was so sweet to Gretchen last week. He took Zach out, for a Father/ Son day, and while he was out he got a surprise ready for Gretchen. When he got home, Gretchen went to the store and when she got back Corey took her on a scavenger hunt. First, he emailed her and put, "I am the vine, you are the branches". That took her to the bathroom (b/c that's our theme) where she found a piece of paper that read, "Roses are red, Violets are blue, I bet you love When I cook on this for you!" That took her to the grill where she found another piece of paper that said, "Diving is fun, except for the sharks! I hope there isn't any in the house!!" That took her to the stuffed shark in Zach's room where there was a piece of paper in the shark's mouth that read, "1st heaven, 2nd heaven, 3rd heaven, 4th heaven, 5th heaven, 6th heaven......". That took her to the DVD's where we have the "7th Heaven" series. There was another piece of paper that said, "Your figuring out all my clues! I just can't SCAN it!" Well, we have a printer/ copier/ scanner. So, she opened the lid to the scanner where a piece of paper read, "I didn't know that a honey bunny was this clever. I just can't ever scare you away... good thing your not a fish, I always scare them.... HMMMMM?" That took her to Corey's spear guns (for diving) where there was a romantic card with a JCPenney gift card inside. Inside the card HE wrote, "Thank you so much for being you. Your hard work, dedication, and loving touch do not go unnoticed nor unappreciated. We wouldn't be a family without you! We love you!...... Corey & Zach" Isn't he sweet???

Corey's 31st Birthday!!

Yesterday, Corey turned 31!! Gretchen made his favorite muffins, banana w/ caramel on top, and made his favorite homemade mocha coffee that he likes. His Bible Study group came over to the house and they shared this breakfast with him and then had a good bible study. It started raining during their bible study and then it ended up pouring all day long. It was an answer to Corey's prayer b/c he always talks about how it NEVER rains. He likes his yard to look nice and green. Then, Corey got to play his video game all day long and then Gretchen and Corey studied Matthew 24 together for 2 hours.

Gretchen had made plans to go to dinner with our friends, Doug and Leslie and their 2 kids. So, we went to dinner at 4:30 p.m. Then, they were going to come back to our house and we were going to have some cake and ice cream. Well, Gretchen forgot the ice cream. So, Doug and Corey went to go get ice cream while Leslie and Gretchen went back to the house. While they were getting ice cream, Gretchen had secretly gotten his other friends and our neighbor to come over to the house for a surprise party for Corey's birthday. He was soooo surprised! He absolutely LOVED it!

Sick!

Gretchen has been sick for the past week. She's had a lot of sinus pressure, headache and some coughing... not to mention the congestion. Zach has been sick as well with a really bad cough. Fortunately, they are both getting better now. Gretchen felt absolutely horrible and couldn't do anything with Zach. Zach was allowed to watch TV all day b/c all Gretchen could do is lay down. Corey did very well in helping with breakfast and trying to take care of Zach as much as he could even though he had to work. He also made dinner for everyone before he went to work. Gretchen felt some relief knowing that she didn't have to do some of those things and could just lay down.

Gretchen thought she was doing better and decided to help Corey wash/ clean the truck. (both inside and outside) After vaccuming the inside and cleaning everything inside, Gretchen didn't feel very good and had to lay down. Sometimes, we think we're better than we really are.

Corey had Bible Study at the house yesterday. Max decided to spray on the couch 15 minutes before everyone came over. So, Gretchen had to clean that up while Corey was finishing up edging the yard so that the guys would notice how nice the yard looked. lol Later in the afternoon, we watched "Left Behind III: World at War". It was really good!

Sorry there aren't any pictures. The website won't let us download them. We're contacting someone to find out what's wrong. :)

Lobsters!

Yesterday, Corey went scuba diving for the first time since before we got married. NOT because Gretchen didn't want him to go but b/c this was the first time he was ABLE to go. He ended up being later than expected, which neither Corey nor Gretchen liked very much but things happen. Corey had to help the other guys clean the fish that they caught as well. Corey ended up catching 2 big lobsters. We grilled them tonight on the grill and they were good! We marinated them in garlic butter and then after they were grilled, dipped them in melted butter.

Corey starts night work tomorrow night. Gretchen and Zach are both sick right now. Zach has a cough that sounds real loose. Gretchen has a sore throat, some sinus pain and a little bit of congestion. Hopefully it will run its course and be gone!

Cat Spray!

We woke up yesterday morning to cat spray on our black leather couch. Of course we knew who the culprit was.... MAX. He has done this before. Gretchen took him to the vet when we first moved down here b/c he was doing that. It turned out that he had a UTI. So, we had to give him some pills to kick the infection. It worked. He stopped spraying on the couch. We think it's a UTI again b/c he is going to the bathroom A LOT and he keeps cleaning a certain part of himself. So, Gretchen is taking him to the vet today. He's already sprayed the couch twice today.

While Gretchen is taking the cat to the vet, Corey is taking Zach and going to fill his scuba tanks. He's going scuba diving tomorrow and is SOOO excited. We're hoping that he will catch some fish that we can throw on the grill. Free food.... gotta love it! Corey just got a new spear gun that he REALLY wanted. This will be his first time trying it out.

Corey's birthday gift!

The other night we went to a Japanese Steakhouse. It was Gretchen's first time going. It was really cool watching the guy cook in front of us and especially the fire that he had go right in front of us. Plus, he made a volcano out of an onion. It was fun and interesting. Zach seemed to really enjoy it. We went with our friends, Mike and Kim, and their 2 girls who are age 6 and 4. Zach seems to really like playing with their 2 girls.

There's a movie theatre that has free movies on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings during the summer for the kids. So, yesterday we went to see the movie "Polar Express". Gretchen brought some snacks for Zach in case he wasn't interested in the movie but he did really well. It was his first time at a movie theatre and he didn't budge once! He watched the ENTIRE movie and didn't want it to end when it did end. We think the big screen and the good movie contributed to his paying attention to it.

Corey got his birthday present early! Gretchen and Zach gave him a stainless steel grill. The old grill started smoking and almost burned the house down. So, we got him the grill that he wanted.

6 Months!

Can you believe it? We have been married 6 months TODAY! Wow! What a 6 months! It has definitely been a learning and adjusting time for both of us. As in every marriage, there are good times and bad times. For the most part, we really try to be sensitive to one another's feelings AND we try not to take each other for granted.

Some people will tell us that it's only like this b/c we're "Honeymooners". We agree to some extent but your relationship and your passion for one another is all in what you put into it AND it's about keeping Jesus as your center point. Jesus is the one who GUARANTEES that your relationship will be "till death do us part". The GREATEST attribute that Gretchen LOVES about Corey is how much he really tries to be like Jesus. He really tries to be humble and love Gretchen as Christ loves the church and gave Himself up for it. He is best at being a spiritual leader, not only to Gretchen but to Zach as well.

Our family is blending very well. Corey has really adjusted well to his role as both a Father and a Husband. Gretchen has adjusted, as well, to being a housewife and stay-at-home mom. She loves the time she gets to spend with Zach AND Corey. Although we love Zach and we focus mostly on raising him in a Godly manner, we make sure that our dedication and love for one another comes FIRST (after God). Zach will one day grow up and move out, then we're stuck with JUST each other. lol So, we make sure that we have that good balance and our priorities in the right order. It's probably harder for Gretchen than it is for Corey. :)

RIBS

The ribs turned out VERY well. Gretchen liked them but wouldn't eat them on a regular basis. She likes chicken better. Corey LOVED them! He just HAD to take a picture of them.

Zach and Gretchen went to the YMCA today while Corey was sleeping. Corey is working nights this week. When Gretchen first took Zach to the Child Watch area, Zach didn't want to go in. We think he may have been overwhelmed by all the kids in there. After a few minutes, he seemed to warm up and Gretchen was able to go work out. Gretchen really enjoyed working out. She did an hour of cardio. When Gretchen went to pick Zach up, he didn't want to leave.

YMCA

The boys got their hair cut today. After that, we decided to eat at our FAVORITE restaurant for lunch, McAlister's. It is soooo good! The sweet tea is the best there.

Then, we took a tour of the YMCA and joined. So, now Gretchen can go to the gym anytime she wants and work out while Zach gets to play with some other kids. Gretchen can also do some swimming and tumbling classes with Zach. It should be fun! Gretchen can't wait to get Zach involved with some of those things.

Tonight for dinner we are having smoked baby back ribs. We called Corey's Dad to find out how to "smoke" ribs. He gave us some great ideas that we're trying. Corey is looking forward to it but Gretchen has never had ribs, so..... we'll see. We're also putting some corn on the cob on the grill. Then, Gretchen made pasta salad last night to be cold for tonight's dinner. It should be good! YUM!

Promise Keepers 2006

Corey went to Promise Keepers on Friday and Saturday! He had a lot of fun and it was very uplifting to him. Corey thinks the best feeling is having all of those men in that stadium singing together for Jesus. He says it's so powerful!

While Corey was at Promise Keepers, Gretchen went out with Zach. Zach was VERY bad. She had only gotten 3 hours sleep the night before (b/c she can't sleep lately) which didn't help. He ran away from her in the store, twice, AND threw a fit in the middle of the Post Office. So, she took care of it when they got home. He's been listening MORE since he got punished. He usually only needs one good punishment and then he's good for a while. He was good the rest of the weekend.

Corey is having his Bible Study this morning. They are all downstairs while Gretchen and Zach are upstairs watching "Herme & Friends: Stanley the Stinkbug". The rest of the day is reserved for family time.

It's so nice for Corey to have 4 days off. We are so blessed that we get to spend much more time together than most families. We think it's so important for Corey, more than Gretchen, to spend time with Zach b/c of the age that he's at. Focus on the Family says that all children tend to need their Dad's more than their Mom's after the age of 3. Not that they don't need their Mom, but it's more important for Dad's to be apart of their lives more than their Mom's. So, Corey is now making sure that one day is reserved JUST for Zach. That means, Gretchen doesn't get to be apart of that since she is always with him. It's so important for Corey to spend some alone time with Zach.

Selling our STUFF!

Nothing has really been going on. We sold Gretchen's computer to one of Corey's co-workers. We weren't using it at ALL and could really use the money to try to pay off some bills. Corey says that we can't even think about having a baby until Gretchen's student loans and car are paid off. So, Gretchen is pushing to get those bills paid. Hopefully we'll have at least the student loans paid by the end of the year. BUT... we have to plan around going to Hawaii in January, 2008. Gretchen's parents are renewing their vows then and both Corey and Gretchen would like to go. So, Gretchen is praying that God will change Corey's mind to at least start trying around December, 2006. We'll see.

Corey has been working days this week. Gretchen has been cleaning through her Premier jewelry to try to sell what she doesn't want. She was thinking about continuing to sell the jewelry but she decided to give piano lessons instead. We are trying to be conscious of what we don't use or want anymore and try to sell it. Gretchen also wants to sell her wedding gown (since she won't be wearing it anymore) but is still trying to figure out how to sell it. Maybe ebay?? If you have any suggestions or know of anyone who may want it, let us know.

A new church

We went to a new church today. It's right across the street from our development. It was nice. Corey really liked it. Gretchen liked it, but not as much as Corey. She's willing to keep going to it, though. It's not a real big church. The congregation was probably around 100 people. There are quite a few "older" (meaning over 60) people, but a good mix of younger people as well. They have a music team that Gretchen could possibly get involved with. Zach seemed to enjoy the 3 year old class. We opted out of putting him in the 2 year old nursery and he's already as big, if not bigger, than most of the 3 year olds. He did VERY well in the 3 year old class.

Corey had to go to work tonight for one night so that he could have off on Friday to go to Promise Keepers. So, we went out to eat after church and then came home to take a nap. When we got up, Gretchen made dinner and Corey went off to work after dinner.

This past week

This past week, Corey has worked nights. Here is a picture of Corey at work. lol Gretchen had a hard time sleeping because of Corey being gone. Not because she was scared, but because he just wasn't there. So, it made it a rough week during the day with Zach.

We also missed Zach so much that we are just spending so much time with him. We are looking at getting a membership at the YMCA so that Gretchen can work out, Corey can workout WITH Gretchen when he's off work AND so Zach can have some interaction with some other children. Plus, Gretchen wants to get Zach into some swimming lessons AND a Tumble Tots class. We think Zach will enjoy that.

We tried giving Zach soymilk this week instead of cow's milk because of his allergies. He seems to really like it but he also seems to be allergic to it. He started breaking out again. He doesn't break out when he drinks cow's milk. The doctor seems to think it just drives his eczema a little bit. The soymilk seemed to make his eczema even worse than the cow's milk. So, we think we're going to wait and see how he does. If he starts to get worse again, we'll take him to another doctor.

Corey is going back to work for one night tomorrow night (Sunday night). He is switching one of his days this week so that he can go to Promise Keeper's this weekend.

Picking up Zach!

Today, we went to North Carolina to meet Gretchen's parents to pick Zach up. We miss him soooo much! After not seeing him for a week, he looked so much bigger than just one week ago. We came home and started chasing him around the house. He immediately started playing with his toys in his room. We think he missed his room and toys more than he missed us. Oh well... that's a kid for ya! At least he's home.... safe and sound!

ROMANCE!

Yesterday, we were suppose to go to the beach but there was an overcast so we both slept in. Corey had to go see the dentist again about his dry sockets to give him more medicine. He's fine now. Then, we came home and relaxed. Gretchen had a hair appointment to get her hair flat ironed straight for the surprise date that was coming in the evening. Corey told Gretchen to get dressed up, have some semi-comfortable shoes on and to be ready by 6 p.m.

Corey took Gretchen to downtown Charleston to eat at Magnolia's. Magnolia's is a five star restaurant. It was amazing. It was very romantic. Gretchen loves to get dressed up to go to places. After dinner, Corey planned to take a walk to WaterFront Park, which was only a 10 minute walk. It was beautiful. It was a little chily but that made it even more romantic as Corey put his arm around Gretchen for the evening. Then, we picked up some cheesecake and went home. It was so nice. Oh, and Corey looked very handsome dressed up. :)

This morning, we went to the beach (since we couldn't go yesterday) and had so much fun swimming in the ocean together, laying on the beach and reading a book. It was very relaxing. It's not very often that we get to go out in the ocean together since we always have to make sure someone is with Zach. We went to Cosco after that and picked up some nice marinated pork tenderloin to put on the grill tonight AND some more cheesecake. The cheesecake we bought last night wasn't very good. Now, we're cleaning the house, mowing the yard and getting everything ready because Zach is coming home tomorrow. We are soooo excited! The time alone has been nice but we miss Zach VERY much and can't wait to see him.

Without Zach :(

Gretchen met her parents in North Carolina to drop Zach off with them for this entire week. Corey and Gretchen both miss Zach sooo much! Corey started his 4 day work week on Sunday. So, he wasn't able to go with Gretchen to drop Zach off.

During the past 3 days while Corey has been working, Gretchen has been sleeping in :), scrapbooking, exercising and cleaning. It's nice to be able to do all of those things with no interruptions. Today, Gretchen is going to get her hair cut and to enjoy a nice spa pedicure.

Corey has been feeling some pain in his mouth since he had his wisdom teeth taken out. So, he will be going to see the surgeon again tomorrow afternoon to see if he has dry-sockets.

Swole Up!

Today, Gretchen went shopping for some curtains and other things for the upstairs room to match the rug that we got. While Gretchen was shopping, Corey delivered the home gym that a guy from Corey's work bought from us. We never used it anyway. Corey was pretty sore today. He's pretty swollen too. He's only eating mash potatoes and tomato soup. He tried to eat some macaroni and cheese but that still bothered his mouth. He'll get better soon.

We put curtains up today that match the rug perfectly. We also got a picture that matches. We put lamps in the loft area (we took the lamps from our bedroom). It is sooo cozy. We can't wait for everyone to come visit to feel how warm and cozy it is. we don't even use our downstairs as much except to eat. I'm sure eventually that will come along as well, though.

Poor Corey, Part 2!

Well, today was the first day of Corey's recovery from having all 4 of his wisdom teeth pulled. He started off the day eating scrambled eggs and sausage. Then, he went outside to mow the grass. It probably helped that he took his pain medication at breakfast. He went with Gretchen and Zach to Zach's Allergist appointment. He started to really hurt by that time because he hadn't taken his pain medication. So, we went to Ye Old Fashioned Ice Cream and both had a brownie sundae. We went home and all 3 of us took a nap. When we got up, Corey was hurting really bad. He's starting to see some swelling. He layed on the couch with an ice pack on his cheek tonight after dinner. Poor thing!

New Furniture!

Well, Corey started out the day without being able to eat because of having his wisdom teeth out this afternoon. He did have Bible Study at our house. Then, we moved our desk and computer around.

Good friends of ours, Skip and Kelly, took Corey to the Dentist to have all four of his wisdom teeth out. Gretchen couldn't go because of needing to be at the house for the furniture.

The furniture came right before Corey got home. He was very tired so Gretchen went to go get his prescriptions filled for him. When she got back, she started putting the end tables and coffee table together. Unfortunately, she broke a piece of the coffee table (fortunately, it's a piece you can't see that goes underneath the actual table). Then, Corey helped her finish putting them together. The loft upstairs is soooo comfortable now.

FLOWERS!

Gretchen received flowers at the house from Corey today! How sweet is he? What a wonderful husband! They are beautiful and he is so wonderful to be so thoughtful!

We haven't really been doing much lately. Gretchen went outside and played with Zach on the neighbor's swing set yesterday. Then, we came inside and we played with play-doh, colored and painted. Gretchen usually has Zach color or paint while she has house work to do. Zach has been doing so well with potty training. He doesn't even want to wear a diaper at night but we still make him.

Corey has been working the past couple of days on night work. We had some pretty bad thunderstorms on Sunday and it rained all day. So, it made it a little easier for Corey to sleep during the day. He loves to sleep when it's raining. Tonight will be his last night. Then, he gets his wisdom teeth out on Thursday! What FUN!

Shrimp Gumbo!

Today we played a lot with Zach. Zach got to watch "Mickey's Clubhouse" on Disney Channel. It only comes on on the weekends. So, while he watched that, we read a chapter in the book "Footsteps of the Messiah". It's a REALLY good book. Corey and Gretchen do devotions every night together, read a couple of chapters in the Bible (starting with Matthew and going through the New Testament) and then read a couple of pages in this book. We also sometimes go through an online "School of Theology" course on carm.org.

This afternoon, we wanted to make some Shrimp Gumbo. So, we bought 2 lbs of fresh jumbo shrimp as well as some other ingrendients to make it. It's pretty good! We almost didn't make it in time for Corey to take to work with him tonight. He goes back to work tonight on night work. He has to take lunch with him because the cafeteria at his work is not open at night. We also bought some more cheesecake from Walmart. So, Corey has a pretty good lunch with him tonight.

Poor Corey!

Corey woke up at 5 AM today to go scuba diving. He traveled 77 miles one way to be there at 7 AM just to find out that it was cancelled! Poor Corey! He hasn't gone scuba diving since January. He was hoping to go before getting his wisdom teeth out next week because he won't be able to go for a couple of weeks after he gets that done. He came home and took a nap for 2 hours. Corey and Gretchen spent today just relaxing, while Zach was taking a nap. We woke Zach up and Corey played tractors with him.

We've really been working with Zach with potty training. Gretchen's parents told them to make Zach run around naked from the waste down to help with potty training. We did it. He went to the bathroom a couple of times on the carpet but got punished for it. He did that about 4 times and now he goes in the toilet everytime. He hasn't had any accidents. We're so proud of him!

Fun and Fellowship!

Yesterday, Corey, Gretchen and Zach went to the beach with Corey's co-worker, Doug, and his kids, Hayley and Bradley. (Doug's wife was at a prayer camp) We had a lot of fun. Doug napped on the beach while Corey and Gretchen played in the ocean with all the kids. It was a lot of fun!

Tonight, Doug and his kids came over to the house along with another one of Corey's co-workers, Mike, and his wife Kim and their 2 kids. Both Mike and Doug attend Corey's Bible Study. Corey grilled hamburgers (or MERN-burgers, lol) on the grill. Kim made some delicious potato salad and Gretchen bought some cheese cake at Walmart. It was all DELICIOUS! All the kids had a good time playing with each other while the adults had a good time of fellowship. We were talking about Jesus and the word of God. It was an awesome time of fellowship. Of course, we had to throw in a few stories about potty training since Zach is in the middle of that. It was a lot of fun and we are so thankful for the good friends that God has placed in our lives!

Cancellation of Trip!

We got 2 hours into the trip last night and decided to turn around and come back home. We decided that it's just too dangerous to drive through the night, anymore. Zach started whining an hour into the trip and between that and being VERY sleepy, we just decided to go to Missouri another time. We're thinking about flying so that we don't have to make a 12 hour trip. We feel horrible because we know Zach was looking forward to going fishing with PapaLarry. Plus, we know Corey's parents were looking forward to spending some time with all of us. It would have been nice to see them.

We're VERY tired today but we're just relaxing and NOT driving anywhere. Corey will probably go diving this week (since he won't be able to go for at least 2 weeks or longer). We may go to the beach but we'll see. Corey needs to rest from working his 12 hour shifts.

Packing for the trip!

We're going to Missouri! We've got a nice long 12 hour trip ahead of us tonight. Corey is working and won't be home until 8 p.m. Gretchen is cleaning the house, packing and making sure everything is taken care of before the trip. Gretchen will be napping with Zach this afternoon b/c she is driving probably most of the night. After Corey working his hard 12 hour day, he's going to be exhausted. Gretchen has had some trouble sleeping lately, anyway, so it shouldn't be too terribly bad. Zach will have to sleep in his carseat! He'll be nice and comfy. He's used to sleeping in his carseat on the way up to Maryland (which is an 8 hour drive).

We should have some fun! We are going to Kennett, MO to visit with Corey's family. This is where Corey is from. We'll get to spend some time with Corey's dad and his wife, Brenda, as well as his mom. Gretchen will get to meet Corey's grandparents and possibly some other members of his family. We'll be staying with Corey's Dad! We may even get to sneak out for the evening by ourselves while his parents get some quality time with Zach. :)

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Happy Father's Day to both Gretchen and Corey's Dad! We both hope that both of you have a relaxing Father's Day! You both deserve it for putting up with each of us for so long! :) We appreciate everything that you've both done for us and what you've been to us. We thank Jesus for being blessed with Dads like both of you!
You have helped us both in guiding us on how to be good parents!

A Typical Day

This is Corey's 2nd day of work. He gets up at 5 AM, gets ready for work and then gets back in bed to cuddle with Gretchen for a little bit. HOW SWEET!! Gretchen should get up when he leaves but she doesn't. She falls back asleep until Zach gets in bed with her to watch some DISNEY Channel. Then, we get up and eat breakfast. Today, Zach colored while Gretchen did some laundry and cleaned up a little bit. Then, Zach wanted to play with play-doh. So, Gretchen and Zach played with play-doh together.

Gretchen did some exercises and now is getting ready to fix some dinner for Zach. Then she fixes another dinner for Corey so that it's hot when he gets home from work. He's starting to go to the gym after work so he's getting home later.

Decorating the House

Well, the house is really starting to come along. We took our home gym down yesterday. That really opened our loft area. We moved the armoire that we got from one of Corey's co-workers into the loft along with the 36" TV. We've got it set up with the xbox for Corey to play. Although, Gretchen plays it with Corey every so often. We just bought a microfiber couch and chaise along with end tables, a small table and an area rug to go upstairs. That won't get delivered until June 29th. So, as soon as we get that I'll have to post a picture. Picking out drapes should be fun but we'll see when we get to do that.

There's no painting going on yet. We're trying to establish what exactly is going to be our permanent decor. God has really blessed us with nice things and a big house. Of course, there will probably ALWAYS be something to do to the house. So far, all 3 bathrooms are done and the guest bedroom is done. Our bedroom is ALMOST done. If we can just figure out what to do with the windows, it'll be done.

We did finally get a bunk bed for Zach about a month ago. Here's a picture of Zach and Corey after we put it together.

Today is Corey's first day back to work of his 4 days. So, Gretchen is just situating and reorganizing things in the house while Zach is taking a nap.
